Kulfi launched a point of view.
And yes, I’m saying that as someone who is exhausted by "inclusive" makeup that still treats deeper and olive undertones like an afterthought.
Kulfi is one of the few brands where I can feel the difference between marketing diversity and actual product decisions. The shade names, the color choices, the formulas, the way they talk about undertones - it feels built from lived reality, not a focus group deck.
Why Kulfi hits different
Kulfi launched in February 2021 with kajal liners first, and that alone told me the brand knew exactly who it was talking to. Not "here’s another black liner" - but richly pigmented shades that reference South Asian beauty culture and still work if you’ve never touched kajal in your life.
Then they followed with Main Match Concealer, and this is the part I respect most: they co-created it with 300 community members to get coverage, undertones, and finish right.
That is the opposite of the usual cycle where brands launch first, listen later, and patch the deep shades six months after backlash.

My take:
Tiger Queen (terracotta) and Rain Check (blue) are exactly the kind of shades that make a basic face look intentional in 20 seconds.
2) Main Match Concealer - $26
What it is: hydrating, crease-resistant, medium-buildable concealer with a radiant finish.
Who should buy it:
- You get gray or orange cast from concealers marketed as "neutral."
- You need coverage for hyperpigmentation but hate dry, cakey formulas.
- You want undertones that actually acknowledge olive and golden variation across depth.
My take:
If your under-eyes hate matte-heavy formulas, this one is worth testing first. The undertone naming is clearer than most brands in this price bracket.
Budget reality check (because rent exists)
If $20-$26 per item is not your lane this month, you still have options.
- Budget concealer fallback: e.l.f. Hydrating Camo Concealer at about $8.
- For liner: use the waterproof pencil you already own and steal the placement ideas, not the whole cart.
You don’t need a full brand haul to get the effect. One product plus good technique beats five impulse buys every time.
What Kulfi gets right that bigger brands still miss
- Undertones are treated as core product design, not a marketing footnote.
- Shade storytelling feels cultural without becoming costume-y.
- Product lineup is edited, not bloated. Fewer launches, clearer intention.
- Community input is built into development, not added as damage control.
And this is the part legacy brands should hear: Kulfi is proof that specificity scales. You don’t have to flatten your identity to reach more people.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy now if:
- you’ve been hunting for concealer undertones that stop pulling weird,
- you want colorful liner that actually stays put,
- and you’re trying to spend on brands with a real point of view.
Wait if:
- your current concealer match is perfect,
- you’re on a strict low-buy month,
- or you’re still figuring out your base shade family.
No fake urgency over here. Makeup is fun, not a panic purchase.
Final word
Kulfi is not "niche" in the dismissive industry sense.
Kulfi is what happens when a brand starts with community, culture, and undertone reality - then builds products around that instead of asking customers to adapt.
That should be standard by now. Until it is, brands like this get my respect and my money.
Break the rules. Keep the receipts.
